Most (If not all) SIM cards sold in Malaysia today are compatible across the World i.e. 'Global roaming'

When I'm in Malaysia I always buy a DIGI pre-paid SIM card for about Rm10, you can buy them in any phone shop, and it costs me 20 cents to send an overseas text message.

If I'm not mistaken locals have to register nowadays but for tourists there's no need.

Hmmm..first of all, if you want to buy a mobile phone here in Malaysia and getting a prepaid plan, you have to register yourself.

The best prepaid plan provider is by Celcom, which also colaborate with Vodafon. Check out the Blackberry Vodafon personal.

Kiora.Go ahead with your plan. Prince Bean is right and the cheapest plan is from DIGI one of the 3 service providers here. Being the cheapest does not necessarily translate into good coverage but I myself use it and am willing to bear with a few missing bars on the transmission signal- lol . Unless you have a phone that is locked to vodaphone due to their plan's terms and conditions as in a promotion or free handset given etc your handset can be used with Malaysian sim card. No worries.
