Can I change my T-Mobile cell phone number?

I was given a cell phone for Christmas, which I really appreciate, and recently it's gotten busted in the wash so I got a new one yesterday. The phone broke but I still have the same sim card, which means I have the same number and data and stuff. However, the new phone came with a new sim card. If I install the new sim card, will I have a new number? I'm wondering because the phone was bought in DC but I live in Maryland, so the area code is different. If I take out my current card, will my plan stay the same with the new one? Will I damage the new card or the old one if I take them out? How will this affect my plan? Is there a way for me to keep the old sim card and change the number? Does it cost money? How much? Can I change my T-Mobile cell phone number?
It will be the same exact plan and number you do have to call customer care 1(800)937-8997 to reactivate it if that is what you want. It does not matter which one you use it will be the same. No additional cost for that. You will not damage your SIM card if you do switch them. As for changing your number depending on your plan you do have to call customer care.

GOOD LUCK!!
