How do you keep the same mobile number even when you change from pay-as-you-go to a contract?

I have a phone with an orange pay-as-you-go account but i am switching to a contract though still with orange. I want to keep the same mobile number even though i will be changing sim cards, how do i do this? I believe there is a number ot ring or something but i have no idea what it is or how to find out what i need to know!! Please help my new phone arrives soon and apparently i need to have it sorted before then. Thanx :)How do you keep the same mobile number even when you change from pay-as-you-go to a contract?
You need to contact your service provider, in this case Orange, and ask them for your PAC code. Advise Orange when you ring for this that you are staying with them for your contract phone as they may not need to actually send you the PAC code - they may be able to transfer your number without but as you quite rightly point out, this needs to be done BEFORE you connect your new phone. How do you keep the same mobile number even when you change from pay-as-you-go to a contract?
Go into an orange shop, or phone their customer services. Be warned, orange reception is rubbish. How do you keep the same mobile number even when you change from pay-as-you-go to a contract?
Where are you buying the phone from??? When you buy from Orange directly (over the phone, internet or in store) they will do it for you at the time of purchase.

If you've bought it through a 3rd party retailer (phones4u, carphonewarehouse etc) then you will need to call Orange customer service BEFORE you activate the sim the handset comes with and they should be able to do it for you.

Dial 07973100150 from a landline when your handset arrives (it can't be done before this as the advisor will need your new handset imei and sim number) and make sure you back up all your existing contacts to your handset as you may lose them when your PAYG sim deactivates.
