I have an iPhone with an O2 contract. Unfortunately I can't change the sim card on it because the phone is locked.
I have tried asking if someone could unlock it for me, but unfortunately the new iPhone software is unbreakable.
I wanted to know if there is a way through Apple or O2 to unlock the iPhone so that when I want, I can change the sim card on it and use my other number.
ThanksHow can i unlock my iphone LEGALLY to change the sim card on it?
It isn't illegal to unlock.
You can either pay O2 the rest of your contract out and an unlocking fee, or you can go to http://Answernode.com and then select the iPhone section. Once you've done that download the (free) software.
There is a version for Mac and for PC - so pick the right one. (Both are free.)
Then follow the step by guide :)

Use Spirit JailBreak and try to download a unlocker via Cydia.

Nope. That's how they screw you (pardon the expression). They lock you into their hardware and their network, so, even if you go out of the country, you have to use *their* service.
This is why I love my Nexus One. The phone comes SIM unlocked, and I can use it anywhere in the world.
Apple is worst than Microsoft in the way they restrict you.How can i unlock my iphone LEGALLY to change the sim card on it?
Er, unlocking is completely different to jailbreaking.
You can't jailbreak the current firmware but unlocking it is a different matter, even O2 will do it for you on the iPhone. How can i unlock my iphone LEGALLY to change the sim card on it?
There is anything %26quot;illegal%26quot; about unlocking your phone. The company that sold it to you will try and make it as difficult as possible for you to unlock it, this is because they want to try and make sure that you continue to use them as a provider. As such they %26quot;lock%26quot; the phone.
You can not be sued for unlocking a phone
You can not have legal action taken against you for unlocking a phone
You are not going to get into trouble for unlocking a single solitary phone.
It does invalidate the warrenty, and if you are going to actually %26quot;sell%26quot; the iphone on, then in theory you are breaking some small rules (see source reference). If you are unlocking it and using it yourself, you are then out of warrenty but have broken no laws!
The best way to unlock it is to go to an unlocking shop. If you are in Tooting, South London, they will unlock your phone for you for between 99p - 拢5 depending on the phone.
